About ME

My name is Jonathan Sin. I am a lighting designer based in Singapore. Graduating out of Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 1998, i gradually found myself getting into the theatre industry after serving two years in national service. The first two years soon became a good six years and i have found myself to have worked as a tech and lighting programmer at the now demolished Kallang Theatre, the new Drama Centre as one of the pioneers in the lighting department as well as a host of other event and rental companies. Due to my interest in generic lighting in theatre, it gradually grew to intelligent lighting and soon lighting design and i found myself travelling to Las Vegas in 2004 to seek out WYSIWYG,an industry leading lighting design software. I have the chance to intern in Texas the following year with one of the most advanced visualisation companies in North America, Portal Design Services, Inc. My utmost gratitude to Cameron Yeary & Chad Yeary for teaching me advanced techniques in lighting design & visualisation that resulted in some of my renders during the intern to be published as marketing material for Vivien, a light-sized version for the events industry. After a brief stint of 9 months at Intelligent Lighting Design Pte Ltd, a fledgling design company in Singapore, I've decided to come out on my own as a freelance lighting designer. The pursuit of excellent lighting design goes on for me, never-ending to create new worlds & images carved out of light & structures. LIGHT REPUBLIQUE, the name of this website, represents that pursue, and showcases what i've done and the potential to break new grounds in lighting design in this part of the world.
